NIKKI SMITH, PTA
Nikki is a board-certified Physical Therapist Assistant with a background in neuro-rehabilitation, orthopedic physical therapy and therapeutic yoga. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Whitman College and spent nine years doing social work with youth before transitioning her career to the field of health and wellness. In 2008 she completed two 200-hour yoga teacher-trainings and a year-long yoga teaching apprenticeship to become a therapeutic yoga instructor. Nikki taught private and group therapeutic yoga lessons full time for four years before returning to school and earning her Associates of Applied Science as a Physical Therapist Assistant in 2014. During this time she began working in community-based neuro-rehabilitation and became fascinated by the complex ways in which the brain and body influence each other in healing.
Nikki is a Reiki healer in the Usui lineage (Reiki I-III) and has pursued extensive training with the Postural Restoration Institute® (PRI), the Upledger Institute for Craniosacral Therapy, and the Barral Institute for Visceral and Neural Manipulation. These techniques serve as the basis for most of Nikki's treatments. She has a passion for combining subtle energetic and manual therapies with movement training techniques to educate clients about body awareness, breath, postural alignment and stability.
